A Sister Project of YES Education
Sustaining Our Islands. Empowering Our People. Securing Our Future.
E mālama i ka ʻāina, a e mālama ka ʻāina iā kākou.
Care for the land, and the land will care for us.
Hawaiʻi is more than a beautiful place to live. It is a living classroom, a cultural treasure, and a fragile island ecosystem that depends on the choices we make today.
For generations, Native Hawaiians practiced principles of mālama ʻāina (caring for the land), kuleana (responsibility), and lōkahi (harmony and unity). These values remind us that true prosperity comes not from consuming more, but from caring wisely for what we have and preserving it for generations yet to come.
Hawaiʻi Sustainability, a sister project of YES Education, seeks to transform these timeless principles into practical solutions for modern challenges through education, innovation, entrepreneurship, community partnerships, and responsible stewardship.
Our purpose is simple: To help Hawaiʻi become more self-reliant, resilient, prosperous, and sustainable while preserving the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spirit of aloha that make our islands extraordinary.
Our Six Pillars of Sustainability
1. Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture
Empowering families, schools, and communities through aeroponics, aquaponics, regenerative agriculture, and local food production to reduce dependence on imported food.
2. Renewable Energy & Resource Conservation
Encouraging clean energy, water conservation, waste reduction, recycling, and innovative technologies that protect our islands' limited resources.
3. Cultural & Environmental Stewardship
Honoring Hawaiian knowledge, protecting watersheds and marine ecosystems, restoring native habitats, and inspiring community responsibility through mālama ʻāina.
4. Youth Education & Entrepreneurship
Preparing the next generation with practical life skills, environmental literacy, emerging technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
5. Sustainable Tourism & Community Prosperity
Promoting responsible visitor experiences, cultural education, volunteer opportunities, locally owned businesses, and tourism that benefits residents and ecosystems.
6. Community Resilience & Disaster Preparedness
Helping communities prepare for natural disasters and supply disruptions through emergency food production, resource planning, resilient infrastructure, and neighborhood cooperation.

Hawaiʻi Sustainability
Together, these initiatives connect personal responsibility with community responsibility. YES Education helps young people develop the character and capabilities to succeed in life, while Hawaiʻi Sustainability provides opportunities to apply those strengths to real-world challenges.
From Ideas to Action
We envision Hawaiʻi as a model of island sustainability, where every school can become a center of innovation, every household can contribute to resilience, every business can practice responsible stewardship, and every young person can help create solutions.
Through demonstration projects, educational resources, community workshops, digital tools, research, and partnerships, we seek to turn sustainability from an abstract ideal into measurable everyday action.
Be Part of Hawaiʻi's Sustainable Future
Whether you are a student, educator, farmer, entrepreneur, community leader, researcher, visitor, or concerned resident, there is a role for you in building a more sustainable Hawaiʻi.
Our future is not simply something we inherit. It is something we create together.
Mālama ʻĀina. Empower Keiki. Sustain Hawaiʻi.
Growing knowledge. Cultivating responsibility. Creating lasting change.
